Your Home Doesn't Need to Look Like Anyone Else's
What if the secret to a home you love isn’t making it better, but making it more like you?
By Madona Nemr

Have you ever been perfectly happy with your home — until you opened social media?
You see someone’s beautiful new kitchen. A perfectly styled living room. The latest colours, furniture, and finishes. Or maybe you visit a friend, a neighbour, a relative, and suddenly start comparing.
Their house looks better. Maybe I should change mine.
Without realizing it, we can start creating our homes around what everyone else is doing instead of around ourselves. And that’s where I believe we lose something important.
Your home isn’t a competition
It doesn’t need to be better than your neighbour’s home. It doesn’t need to look like an influencer’s home. And it certainly doesn’t need to look like a magazine.
Those homes can inspire you — but they don’t know anything about your life.
How you spend your mornings. Where you like to sit at the end of the day. Whether you entertain twenty people or prefer dinner with two. The colours that make you happy. The things you’ve collected throughout your life. The memories that matter to you.
Your home should begin with all of that.
Different is better than better
“Different is better than better.”
I believe this idea applies beautifully to our homes. Instead of asking, how can I make my home better? — try asking, how can I make my home feel more like me?
Maybe you love colour when everyone else seems to be choosing neutrals. Use colour.
Maybe you have an old table filled with memories that doesn’t fit today’s trends. Keep it.
Maybe your idea of comfort isn’t what you see in a design magazine. That’s okay.
Your differences are what give your home its personality.
Start with how you want to feel
Before choosing a paint colour, a sofa, or a new kitchen, ask yourself something much simpler: how do I want to feel when I come home?
Calm · Comfortable · Happy · Grounded · Inspired · Connected
Then look around. Does your environment support that feeling?
This is where I believe our homes and our well-being meet. We spend so much of our lives in our surroundings. When our environment works with who we are and how we live — rather than constantly asking us to be something else — home can become a place where we genuinely feel comfortable being ourselves.
It doesn’t have to be perfect
A home is meant to be lived in.
There will be shoes. Coffee cups. Books. Family. Pets. Things that don’t perfectly match, and pieces that have more emotional value than design value.
That’s life.
I believe in putting more thought into the things that truly matter and allowing other things to simply be good enough. Your home doesn’t need every corner styled. It doesn’t need to be finished all at once. And it doesn’t need anyone else’s approval.
Your home should tell your story
Take inspiration from beautiful spaces. Save photographs. Look through magazines. Follow designers you love.
Then come back to yourself.
Take the inspiration — not someone else’s identity.
Because the goal isn’t to walk into your house and think, this looks perfect.
It’s to walk through the door and feel: this is me. This is home.
